Hope everyone had a good Christmas. As you know we were involved in a feeding ministry in the New Orleans during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Jerry Carson, Dan Rocha and several others went down - took food, clothes, toys, stuffed animals, gifts etc. They had 300 pounds of cooked pork loin when they left here. Potato salad, bake beans, and apple crunch completed the meal served to 800+ people at three locations. People were fed and given Christmas presents in the 9th ward, St Bernard Parrish, and on the river bank. They were all witnessed to about Jesus and given the opportunity for salvation. Many of the 800+ were children that went to bed with a full stomach and a Christmas present that might not have had that chance otherwise. What a combination, fill his stomach then feed his soul. It really doesn't matter whether it's in New Orleans or Central America; where ever we go we try to give people Hope, to have hope you have to have faith. With no Faith there is no Hope.

Remember what God's word says about you and the victory that HE has planned for you. When the enemy tells you that you're not strong enough to survive the pressures of this world, remember God's Word says "greater is He that is in you that he that is in the world." ( 1 John 4:4)

God is good , Happy Holiday, Don W.

P.S. We plan to send another container in late January. We would like to send one per month in 2009 - that is our goal. There is already some interest in a trip in 2009 it will be late Dec. or early January

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

http://www.cmgllc.org/

I had the blessing of spending a week in the Lower Ninth Ward with 8
other members of my church community and while there, was blessed to
work with the people at Carpenter's House 2. While working at
Carpenter's, I hauled boxes, searched for lighting fixtures, helped
serve food to the community, and was given the opportunity to paint a
mural with my friend, Suni. Working at Carpenter's lifted my heart
because I knew that I was surrounded by good people working for a
better world. I was able to meet people from many different areas of
the country and hear the stories of the survivors of Katrina. What
surprised me the most about my experience was the joyful attitude of
everyone I met volunteering-- including those members of the community
who survived the storm. Everyone worked amidst tragedy with attitudes
that truly reminded me of Philippians, the text my church was studying
during our stay. I expected a trip filled with tears, but my trip was
full only of tears of gratitude and joy as I realized how truly
blessed my life is and how truly meaningful it was to be doing God's
work in the world. This trip touched my life in a way that nothing
else ever has and I hope to be able to return soon.

Thank you so much for the generosity and good will I found at Carpenter's.

We have so much to say we do not even know where to start!!!
We will say thank you both for being such powerful conduits of God's encompassing love! We will pray for y'all everyday and every other time during the day when you pop up in our thoughts.
{I speak for the rest of our group when I say...
.....we will never be the same! Thank You -JESUS!}
Thank you both for your precious prayers. Here's an anology for ya-
Thank you for recognizing that we each have been stuck in a can. Thank you for holding the can opener as God turned it and thank you now as y'all are praying for us, Rest assured God contiues to peel back the lid of metal that has prevented our clarity of thinking - our ability to understand that God is will continue to use us in a real and tangible way.
Oh, how excited we are and how hard it is to wait expectantly as Christ Jesus begins to show up in our hands and feet!
Thank you so much for your hospitality and taking time out of your routine to love on us and to let us love on you!!!

To Whom This May Concern: I received this post from Josh Dellheim...Thanks Josh!

To Whom This May Concern:

I was looking to leave this post on the blog for Charles and everyone at Crescent City Carpenters House:

My name is Josh Dellheim, I am 22 and a Senior at Salem State College in Salem Massachusetts. During the week of August 9th-16th I had the opportunity to lend a helping hand down in New Orleans as well as Slidell a suburb north of the city. The last two days of my trip I had the absolute pleasure of helping at Capenters House 2 located right in the heart of the Lower 9th Ward. The very first day we handed out over 100 backpacks to the kids who were about to start school in the Lower 9th Ward, where these backpacks were stuffed with school supplies from donations given to Carpenters House. The experience over those two days working directly in the Lower 9th Ward were forever life-changing and absoloute honor to be helping out such a creat organization.

Three years have passed since Hurricane Katrina had hit New Orleans, and there is so much work that remains undone. I was told only 5% of the Lower 9th Ward [the hardest hit area in New Orleans] has been rebuilt since the disaster. That statistic alone is disheartning because if you just imagine where you live right now, your town/city, and in three years only 5% of your town/city had been rebuilt since a disaster? Thats a tough pill to swallow. Carpenter's House is a tremendous gift to the city of New Orleans and they are helping everyway possible to get these citizens of the Lower 9th Ward back to their homes and lives. The foucs is not solely on rebuilding homes, its now about rebuilding the community. Charles and Judy only have so many voulenteers, but so much more are needed to help.

Hurricane Katrina has become old news, and the belief is that "New Orleans is back!," and with many things old news tends to be swept under the rug after. Well the truth is New Orleans is far from back, and so much help is still needed. Volunteers are needed now more than ever, and I could not stress this any more. The volunteers that came down for the first year did an absolutley tremendous job of clearing the debris left from the storm, but now that the debris is gone homes and communities must go up, and simply the helping hands are not there. Your help is needed and you do not need to be a skilled carpenter to help make a difference. Whether you lend a hand to build or lend an ear to listen, it will be your presence and help that make a difference. I pray and hope that my words here today can stike a cord with you, the reader, and become a catalyst to get you to make a difference in New Orleans. Your help is needed more than ever, and I pray that the people of New Orleans can return to their homes that were taken away from them sooner than never.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

I talked to Charles yesterday and they need help now. There isn't any groups scheduled to come down until Oct.3rd. If anyone knows of any group that might be interested in helping out, let Charles know so he can contact them.

If we can get donations Charles can hire labor down there at a reasonable rate and continue with the rebuilding. If anyone has any ideas to get the money flowing....Please post them. Any amount will help buy materials, dollars add up!

Our church is having a golf benefit the 13th. of September and we hope to raise a significant amount for Carpenter's House.
